This is a test page for the Responsive Video Embeds plugin. Re-size the browser and watch the videos automatically scale to fit the resolution.
The resizing effect on this page can be a little bit choppy at times, mostly due to the fact that we’re loading and resizing far too many videos for a single page.

Hi Kevin. I know there could be a ton of dynamics contributing to a video resizing. I'm using Super Skeleton from Themeforest, & when I go to the site on my cell, videos do not resize. Any ideas as to why? http://bruce.bkgriffin.com/?page_id=12
QR CODE: http://goo.gl/jACjm
To test the url on a smart phone, you can click the link above & scan the code w/ your phone.
Kevin, it really shouldn't matter if the phone is Android :-) or an iPhone :-( right? All I'm getting is a green arrow indicating to download something. Once I click the arrow, it does load, but why are the videos not resizing?
Thanks!
Hey Brad,
It looks like you're including the old OBJECT embed in that theme, or at least in the example you sent. If you switch to the new IFRAME embed it will fix the issue. The YouTube <object> embeds won't play on most mobile devices because they are Flash movies. The new IFRAME widget uses HTML5, that's what you need.
This is cool, but where are the instructions to use it? I installed the plugin, activated it and my video isn't responsive. Are there instructions somewhere that I'm missing?
Hey Ben,
Under Settings > Media check off the Auto-embeds feature and embed your videos using the auto embed feature (http://codex.wordpress.org/Embeds) provided by WordPress.
I've just updated the plugin's Instructions page to make these easier for others in the future, thanks for taking the time to provide the feedback.
Let me know if this works for you
Hi Kevin! Right now I'm using this code, for example:
[embed width="637" height="357" ]http://vimeo.com/0000000[/embed]
but I have some problems, I can't customize the player, like hiding the portrait and title.
Do you have any solution?
Thank you so much in advance.
This should be fixed in the latest release, version 1.2.2.
Eej Kevin,
This plug-in works really nice. Except for the Vimeo embeds. There're black bars on the top and bottom of the video's.
This can be fixed by setting the "padding-bottom" to zero in the "rve-embed-container" for only Vimeo embeds. Is there a way how I can fix this?
Hi Jeroen,
I don't any black bars on the bottom of top of the Vimeo video above, can you send me a link to the specific place where you are seeing this?
Can this work for self hosted video?
Not currently, unfortunately.
Hey Kevin
This plugin is exactly what I was looking for.
I'm trying to embed Scribd PDFs, but I get a massive gap above the embed. http://www.marketingserviceslondon.com/testing
Any idea what might be causing it?
Hi Abhi,
Apologies for the delay on this, it looks like you solved the issue?
Hi Kevin, great plugin! Works awesome on my site in the page content, but it doesn't work in a widget. Can you help me with that?
Are you using auto-embeds in the widget, or manually entering the embed code? If you're manually entering the embed code is my be a little bit tricky.
Any luck with seff hosted videos ? JW Player or Easy Video player videos. I guess not everybody needs to embed videos from youtube or other video hosts. Great plugin. Thanks.
Hi Bunty,
The method used works very well with IFRAME embeds, but JW and other self-hosted options generally use SWF embeds which can be a little bit tricky.
Can you shoot me a link to an example of a self-hosted video that you want to resize in WordPress?
Great plugin, however I also have the black border Vimeo problem. Any way of solving this?
Hi Nick,
Can you post a link to a use case for the issue? I'm planning to release a few updates to the plugin within the next week. I'll see if I can get this resolved for you.
I, like Nick, am having the black border top and bottom with my vimeo embeds. Have tried $content_width= and [embed] criteria to no effect. http://dowlenroad.com/?p=12079
This has been resolved in in the latest release, version 1.2.
Hello,
Here is a link to a blog post with a Vimeo embed at the bottom – http://www.ourcanadianadventure.co.uk/2012/10/beu…
The original Vimeo link – http://vimeo.com/7764570
As you can see there is a black border at the top and bottom of the player. Is there anyway to fix this?
Thanks
Hi Nick,
Try upgrading to the latest version (1.2) that was released today. It should fix these issues for you.
Nice plugin
Awesome job. This plugin is so cool. Thank you very much.
Hey Kevin, thank“s for doing this, but not working for me.
Please check http://Bellaco.cl any ideas?
Best!
Hi Fernando,
Try upgrading to the latest version (1.2) that was released today. It should fix these issues for you.
Still not workign ;( version 1.2.1 any ideas?
I hate to sound redundant, but 1.2.2 should solve it. It’s much more stable than it’s predecessor.
Hey Kevin,
Thanks for creating this plugin, nice work and it’s very helpful.
I am having a slight problem on mobile devices (tested on iphone 5 and galaxy s2) where the video height doesn’t resize. On the desktop browser it works fine, but as soon as it’s on mobile the videos are the right width but stretched vertically. Wondering if there is a way to constrain the proportions?
Cheers!
Hi Craig,
There could be a way, but I’ll need more details.
– Where can I see the video in question?
– What type of video is it (Vimeo, YouTube, etc.)?
– Do you see the same issue with the videos above?
Hi, Kevin-
I can’t seem to get the plugin to work with my template. I was sure to use the iframe embed from vimeo, but it doesn’t seem to work. The theme itself is responsive, would there be some code doing double duty that is canceling yours out? http://www.bradfordwoodschurch.org
thanks much!
Try updating to version 1.2.2, this should resolve the issue.
Kevin,
very nice plug-in and (almost) exactly what I am looking for. Has there been any thought/advancement on having this work with self-hosted videos?
Thought, but not advancement.
Looks great, Kevin – any way I could implement this script on a standalone non-Wordpress site?
Definitely,
Just wrap your iframe, object or embed tags with a div, then load in jQuery then the plugin JS:
http://plugins.svn.wordpress.org/responsive-video-embeds/trunk/js/rve.js
Hi Kevin, I tried your plugin and similar plugin “fluid video embeds” both of them lack one option to my knowledge.
When we embed the video, it takes up 100% available width. What if we want to set a maximum width while keeping the video responsive?
Hi Chirag,
This can easily be done, just set a
max-width
on the.rve
DIV in your stylesheet..rve { max-width: 690px; }
Could this work with clips from livestream.com?
It could work with anything, it’s open source.
Many, many thanks from a happy user! Just building up my new portfolio site and now I’m glad I found your plug-in!
Is it possible to make it autoplay?
This could be done using a WP hook to filter oEmbed parameters, but it’s outside the scope of what this plugin provides.
Thanks, but does not work for me … WordPress latest version .. Screen: http://yehpic.com/images/2013/12/23/Screen_Shot_2013-12-23_at_041439.png
Are you using the latest version, 1.2.2
Seems to work great – except when I try to stipulate the embed be a HD720 or HD 1080 version in an iFrame. Then it won’t resize the video.
(using ?rel=0&vq=hd1080 at the end of the URL in the iFrame)
Any ideas?
Scratch that last comment, didn’t work with the standard iFrame code without the HD addon.
Is the plugin meant to work with the standard YouTube iFrame embed code? Or just the auto embed in WordPress? (which works great)
Hi there,
Great Plug-in but not working with vimeo choose-site-embed videos(vimeo plus feature).
Thanks!
Hi Kevin-
Is there an option for youtube in which I can choose to NOT display related videos when my video gets to the end?
Hi Kevin,
Thank you for this plugin! Downloaded + Installed + Activated + Tested!
It works like a charm ;)
I just installed it on 3.8.1 multisite install, activated it on a single blog and there is no option in Settings -> Media. Is that due to multisite?
No need to worry, when the plugin was originally created that was an option inside of WordPress but it no longer exists in the latest version(s). The feature is enabled by default.

I installed and activated the plug-in. Under Settings > Media there is no checkbox or anything that says Auto-embeds.
Same here. No checkbox for Auto-embeds.
First of all thank you for creating this plugin and keeping it up to date. I have only one problem…on mobile, in lazyload mode, videos from youtube wont autoplay. I mean i have to click once for the video to load and again for play. Is there any way to fix that. Thank you again

Hi Kevin, i tried using this plugin after installing it i cant see something on Media, where you asked me to enable the auto embed, it’s not working on my site here is the site url http://www.andhrapradeshtoday.com/back-benchers-telugu-short-film/
can you please help me out
@Raj
Auto-embeds are now automatically enabled for all WordPress installs by default, no configuration is necessary. It looks like you were able to solve this though? Your videos are working properly in the link you provided.
